Congratulations to this week’s Officers of the Week, Flag Co-Coordinators Sarah Bayless and Sandro Cervantes!
Sarah and Sandro received Officer of the Week after not only successfully participating in the Texas Independence Day Parade, but also for handling weather complications really well when it came to flag events. Both Sandro and Sarah are seniors. Sarah is a microbiology major and Sandro is a Sport Management major. Not surprisingly, the two Flag Coordinators’ favorite thing about APO is – you guessed it – that big ol’ Texas flag.
Congratulations to this week’s Officer of the Week, Andrew Thompson!
Andrew, our Merit Badge University Director, received Officer of the Week after orchestrating a hugely successful MBU, as well as several preparatory events in the week leading up to it. Andrew is a junior majoring in Exercise Science with a Business Foundations Certificate and a Pre-Allied Health Certificate. His favorite thing about APO is his personal opportunity to be a leader, as well as the opportunity APO provides to learn more about leadership and improve leadership skills.
Congratulations to this week’s Officers of the Week, Jessica Dai and Samuel Garcia, our Fundraising Co-Chairs!
Jessica and Samuel received Officer of the Week after several highly successful fundraisers, including Valentine’s Day Candy Grams and kicking of the Grilled Cheese Fundraiser. Jessica is a third-year International Relations and Global Studies Major. Her favorite thing about APO is all the people she’s grown close with, and all her ‘friends on deck.’ Samuel is a first-year student who is currently undeclared, but hopes to go into Communications. His favorite thing about APO is being a part of something bigger than himself and having a family.
Congratulations to this week’s Officers of the Week, Brian Ellis and Sarah Bayless!
Brian and Sarah served as Recruitment Co-Chairs and received Officers of the Week for completing a recruitment season that brought in over 100 pledges! Brian is a third-year computer science and music double major. His favorite thing about APO is the opportunities it provides to foster leadership skills and the encouragement for people to grow outside of their comfort zone. Sarah is a senior and is majoring in microbiology. She has a deep love for being a part of APO’s flag tradition.
Congratulations to this week’s Officers of the Week, Gaby Fernandez and Kellie Waller!
Gaby and Kellie, our Community Co-Directors, received Officers of the Week after hosting a successful Active Retreat and getting Alpha Rho involved with ECHO, a homelessness census. Gaby is a government major and Kellie is a psychology and sociology major. Both are third-year students. Both Gaby’s and Kellie’s favorite part of APO is the friendships they’ve made and the opportunity to meet people with a similar passion for service.
Congrats to this week’s Officer of the Week Chris Dominy!
Chris is a 3rd year, biology major and psych minor. Chris received officer of the week because he created requirements that were catered to the needs of the chapter for the spring semester and successfully got them passed. His favorite thing about APO is volunteering at Rosement. He loves to work with there kids there while also getting a chance to give back to the community.
Congratulations to our officer of the week (11/6 – 11/12): Vanessa Medrano!
Vanessa is a Human Development and Family Sciences major with a minor in psychology. She was chosen as our officer of the week for her efforts in bringing back fundraising to get ready for APO Nationals in December. She enjoyed her officer position because it allowed her to meet a lot of other members she didn’t have the chance to talk to before. She really liked our grilled cheese fundraiser because “those bad boys taste pretty good.”
Congratulations to our three officers of the week (10/16 – 10/22): Sunny Kim, Betsy Purdes, and Zaira Garcia!
Sunny was chosen as one of our officers of the week for successfully putting together one of our biggest service projects of the semester: a week-long blood drive! When she isn’t busy with APO, Sunny is working toward her degree in Biomedical Engineering. She has enjoyed being our blood drive coordinator for this semester for a few reasons. “Sometimes it is very professional and serious because it concerns lives of so many people, but other times it just makes me so happy that we as a group can make a difference even if some of us, including me, might not be eligible for blood donation,” said Sunny. Relatedly, she was once yelled at by a phlebotomist for counting four cups of coffee as a meal when they asked her if she had eaten that day.
Betsy and Zaira were also chosen as our officers of the week for bringing back a long-lost Alpha Rho tradition: Formal! Betsy is a Management major in the McCombs School of Business with a minor in International Business. She loves being one of the fellowship co-chairs because the events we hold are meant to bring people together. “Since I just joined last semester, I know how hard it can be to make new friendships and feel involved in such a large organization,” said Betsy. In preparation for her future career as an international management consultant, Betsy has been to 14 countries!
Zaira is majoring in Psychology. She also enjoys being one of the fellowship co-chairs because… friendship! “We literally get to host events where friendships blossom and it’s really cool to be a part of that,” said Zaira. “Everyone I’ve met through APO is so kind and genuine, and I love spending time with them.” Zaira also has gone to see Elf the Musical, and when it was over she cried because she was so proud of the cast and how hard they worked during the show.
A huge thank you to these three officers for giving us a week full of blood and bonding!
Congratulations to our officers of the week (10/2 – 10/8), Melody Kelm and Jennifer Jones!
Melody is a Petroleum Engineering major, and is also getting a certificate in Business Foundations. She loves being a flag coordinator because she gets to be in charge of the world’s largest Texas flag. “It’s a UT tradition and I have loved being a part and continuing that tradition. I also like the hat,” said Melody. When she isn’t studying or working with the flag, Melody spends her time as a TA for the volleyball class here on campus.
Jenn is a Chemistry and Petroleum Engineering double major. “I like flag because of the school spirit and adrenaline rush that happens when you run it and you get to feel like part of a whole,” said Jenn. She was also named most humorous in high school.
Thank you to our dedicated flag coordinators for making OU weekend a success!
Congratulations to our officer of the week (9/25 – 10/1), Matthew Edwards!
Matthew is currently majoring in electrical engineering. He enjoys this officer position because it gives him a chance to speak with our knowledgeable alumni and advisors. Matthew has also never been within 50 feet of a horse.
A big thanks to Matthew for keeping our alumni and advisors continuously involved with what Alpha Rho is up to!
